Celebrating the “Art of Fashion”, Fashion Palette showcased a lasting fashion expression on Tuesday night to an A-List crowd. From Arthur Galan‘s contemporary line featuring bold strokes of colour to LAB Homme’s cheeky display of European-esque menswear. Texture, digital print, excess, minimalism and even nudity – it was all there in a celebration of the Australian Fashion Industry.
The Art Gallery of New South Wales made for a dramatic backdrop and appropriate setting for the fashion show that comes on the heels of another exciting Fashion Month. Fashion Palette is the only exhibition of its kind – a platform that catapults both emerging and locally-renowned designers from Australian origins onto an international stage.
Acclaimed designer, Nicola Finetti opened the show with a typically civilized presentation. Finetti sent out an array of impeccably-tailored, block-coloured gowns that characteristically combined effortlessness and elegance. In complete contrast, milliner-to-the-stars Viktoria Novak’s models seduced the crowd in sexy black leotards, encapsulating the strength and seduction of their custom headpieces, veils and crowns.
Newcomer, Nadz and Sabs showed a new way to punch up a formal wardrobe with metallic accents (a trend that is emerging of late) and mirrors that crunched and clanged as they came down the runway, while the Elle Zeitoune models shimmered their way down in glittering yet delicate gowns which I want to sell my car for.
Roxcii Fashion also debuted with a contemporary line that instantly proved a hit with the city’s well-coiffed, well-heeled fashion set. Sydney Fashion Blogger, Kate Waterhouse, Tash Sefton and Elle Ferguson (theyallhateus.com) and Tegan Martin were just a few of the notables in attendance, buzzing about the show.
For the finale, Alin Le’ Kal wrapped up the show with a dazzling bridal moment. Think extravagant white ball gown adorned in three-dimensional beaded motifs and a train so vast, it look up half the runway. As the fashionable crowd applauded this magnificent finale, it became abundantly clear that fashion talent is overwhelmingly concentrated here in Australia.
We are no longer a “season behind” the rest of the fashion world. In fact, as Fashion Palette demonstrates, we are an incubator of fashion inspiration and our designers are capable of pursuing the dream of global expansion like others before them.
See you in New York.
