Check Mate

Last season’s bulky, boxy print has found its way into this season. This time in more interesting colours and versatile fabrics.

The Scottish were the style conspirators of tartan but today’s revived breed is feminine and insouciant. However, the classic Highlands’ print doesn’t have to be relegated to kilts or primary school uniforms or picnic blankets. In fact, since last year, tartan prints have been very much back on the style agenda. And not just in heavy woolen fabrics for winter – we are seeing it cut into breezy daytime fabrics, ideal for spring.

My outfit is a skirt and top by Finders Keepers, which can be worn as separates (but matching sets are having a fashion moment – however, I will leave the “coordinates” discussion for another day). There is a little

whimsy in the latest Finders Keeps collections, which also consist of relaxed pants, tailored blazers and a perfect day dress.

The Celtic print has found a new, chic modern home and I think it has staying power because, in a time of futuristic fashion, we can take comfort in the realms of nostalgia.

Aye, juist a wee bit …
