Last week I embarked on a new adventure. Perhaps just as fanciful as Alice’s when she followed that rabbit down the hole, through the field and into Wonderland!
I was invited to join the team at Wedded Wonderland in the execution of two highly-anticipated industry events.
Before the mayhem begins, the first thing on the agenda is a team breakfast at Sydney’s iconic gastrodome, The Grounds of Alexandria. Conveniently around the corner from the WW HQ, perched quaintly in a former industrial precinct in Sydney’s inner-east, this rustic eatery features wooden furniture, a herb garden, a mini-produce market and a bakery.
I’ve been to The Grounds several times before and, although certainly worthwhile, the wait time to be seated inside the café is typically in excess of 40 minutes. Today, however, we were immediately escorted to our table inside the dimly-lit oasis by the charming maitre’d himself. I guess its not what you know, it’s ……..!
I was introduced to the WW team over a perfectly brewed cup of coffee – the sales executive, the marketing manager, the events coordinator and of course, the Fairy Godmother behind the fantasy, Wendy El-Khoury, whose passion was immediately evident.
Wendy delivered a briefing on the upcoming events … and by briefing I mean waving her hands around excitedly while she spoke about bringing Jeff Leatham out to Australia for WW’s exclusive star-studded media event in July and hosting Australia’s leading ateliers and fashion designers in a first-of-its-kind Bazaar in October. I think I successfully contained my excitement and acted normal.
After the obligatory Instagram photos were taken, I was introduced to the team over flavorful plates of crunchy granola, polenta porridge, organic yoghurt and kale shots to wash it all down. This softened the blow when Wendy handed out our agendas and targets for the week. As did the resplendent rainbow roses hand-delivered to us by Silva who manages the gorgeous floristry at The Grounds, The Grounds Florals by Silva. Wonderland, indeed!
… “sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast” … In this case, I still believe them after breakfast!
Follow me on this exciting adventure down the rabbit hole and into a designer-fuelled wonderland.
